According to Jakarta Globe, Indonesia would ban the import of new BlackBerry phones until RIM set up their local after-sales service department. A spokesman for the Indonesian government GatotSDewabroto said that the Communications and Information Technology Department had informed mobile phone importers and operators about this.
However, Gatot added that this ban was limited to the new Blackberry models and the blackberries which had got import permission could go on selling.
Aditalrawat, Vice President of the Communication Department of Indonesia’s second largest telecom operator PTIndosatTbk, claimed that their company was planning to cooperate with the government to introduce blackberry phones of CDMA standard. “However, we also support government’s decision that RIM should open branch department in Indonesia. This will help cut cost and lower prices.”
After a long arguing around 2 weeks finally Research in Motion, commonly known as RIM, is preparing to open an aftersales service center in Indonesia after the Government halted the issue of licenses for the company's new devices. It's a logical step for RIM to secure its "magic business" in the world's fourth-most populous country.
The company, in an emailed statement, said it is "in the process of arranging for a RIM-authorized repair facility to be opened in Indonesia in the near term. This repair facility will expand RIM's existing aftersales service capabilities and support the growing sales of BlackBerry smartphones by RIM's partners in Indonesia".
